How to provoke a New Season!
The Book of Ecclesiastes has always fascinated me., its a books with lots of truth, proverbs, deep thoughts- of course its no surprise, its Gods words. My focus today however is the subject in Eccl 3:1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”. the next few verses goes on to list a few of these types of season- a time to be born, a time to die, weep, gather, scatter , the list goes on. This implies that season come, and seasons go. This is great news to you today, you may be going through a very rough season in your life- loss ( of employment, joy, job, family etc) because I bring you good news of encouragement today, your season is about to change.
God said in Psalm 30:5 “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”. We can glean a couple of nuggets from this passage- look at the second half:
- weeping may endure for a night: The night of your life represents a dark season, a time when it seems light will never shine again. The night season may range from a few hours to max 12hrs (if it gets dark at 6pm). The night season of your life may seem to drag on, but its coming to an end, sooner than you think!
- BUT… (oh yes, its a big BUT).. Joy comes in the morning. This implies that the dark season will change to daylight, and it brings with it Joy, abundance, deliverance, wholeness, healing, salvation, prosperity…
Going back to Eccl 3- you may say that the season of our lives have been appointed, so why bother, right? But we learn from Gods words that we can change our seasons by taking some decisive actions. For example:
Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”. this verse told us that if we : repent, convert – so that our sins are blotted our, then times (or seasons) of refreshing would come from the presence of the Lord. So this means that what is delaying the response from God is your action to (repent and be converted). here is one verse showing us how to provoke a new, favorable season!
If this one does not convince you, here is another one from 2 Chronicles 7:13-14. Solomon and the children of Israel offered worship and burnt offering/sacrifices at the opening of the new temple. In response, here is what God said after appearing to Solomon at night“13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” God is saying in essence, because of your sins or wickedness ( verse 14), I the Lord begin to rain down punishment- by sealing off heaven- nothing good comes down, in addition, I send locust to eat your land, both literally and spiritually… if all this is going on and you do nothing, then it will continue. In other words, that season of judgement will continue. However, if my people (notice these are Gods people, not the world). who are called by my name (in case you missed the first part) will do these:
- Worship and sacrifice- we don’t have to kill an animal like Solomon did, we offer our life, obedience to Gods word and any instruction He gives to you.
- Humble yourself
- Pray and seek Gods face
- and turn from their wicked ways ( its not enough to be humble and pray, you have to forsake the wickedness that got you in the mess in the first place.
Then what follows is a change of season, because:
- God will hear from heaven ( which means before the action steps above were put together, God was not hearing!)
- forgiveness follows
- The land is healed – heralding in a new Season.
So, you desire a new season… well, the ball is in your Court. In the first place, if you are not yet born again. Thats a great place to start ( leading to a new season for you!). Pray this prayer with me out loud ” Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Christ, the son of the living God. I confess my sins and ask you to come into my heart, be my Lord and savior” Amen. if you said that prayer, you just got saved! A new season has just started. Congratulations!
